Acts 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Matthias, I can only find his named mentioned twice. What is interesting about that is the opportunity he had but missed.  The verse we just read tells us that Matthias was numbered with the eleven apostles. We are told of the position he held but nothing of what he did in that position. He goes down in history as being numbered with the apostles but doing nothing as an apostle. Reminds me of the talents given to the three; to one there was given only one, to another two and to another five talents. The one with the five talents doubled his, the one with the two talents doubled his also but the one with only one did nothing. All he has was an excuse
Matthew 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, [there] thou hast [that is] thine.
How did the Lord handle this matter?
Matthew 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, [Thou] wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: The Lord said this person was a wicked and slothful servant. The opportunity was there no doubt but nothing was done with the opportunity. He was just numbered with the ones who did something. If I were to ask you to name just 6 of the 12 disciples could you? If I were to ask you to name 5 of the 10 spies that went in to spy out the land of Canaan could you? If I asked could you name 3 of the 7 men chosen to be the first Deacons?

Acts 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. More than likely not but if I asked you to name 3 of the Disciples that stood out you would you would more than likely name Peter, James & John. Why? They were not only numbered but those men did something. Just as did Caleb & Joshua as the spies that went into Canaan and as did Stephen & Phillip as two of the seven. Its one thing to be numbered but it’s quite another to use the talent or talents God has given you. Don’t accept the position if all you want is prestige and recognition; accept the position with the attitude of going forward regardless of the prestige and recognition. Use your talent for Gods glory.
