    Hello all,

For a scholarly critic of the gender-neutral 2011 NIV, please visit http://www.cbmw.org/Resources/Articles/An-Evaluation-of-Gender-Language-in-the. I believe the new NIV is inaccurate. The link will help you understand why Southern Baptists believe this. Gender-neutral translation philosophy was condemned by Southern Baptists in three separate resolutions in the years of 1997, 2002, and 2011. Each of these resolutions can be found at this blog: http://www.dennyburk.com/the-sbc-resolution-on-the-niv/. I assure the reader that messengers were not confused about the issue. After condemning gender-neutral Bible translation philosophy three times, Southern Baptists stand united in not recommending the 2011 NIV for general use by the public.

Lifeway's decision was based upon financial considerations. Note Dr. Adam Greenway's quote in Christianity Today: "We are simply saying from a retail perspective, we do not believe that we should cease carrying and make available to the public the 2011 NIV" ( http://blog.christianitytoday.com/ctliveblog/archives/2012/02/lifeway_defies.html ). "Retail perspective" trumped principle. Southern Baptists are disappointed by this decision and expect more from our entities.

Lifeway is a ministry as well as a business. Good ministries should not distribute inaccurate copies of God's Holy Word.

Please visit the first link and learn more about the 2011 NIV.

    Blessings,
    Rev. Tim Overton
